  1. StutteringStevie Said,

    And Hawk is based …
And Hawk is based on that very engine.

  2. MrThomasAndWALLE Said,

    I heard they have …
I heard they have the same type of tank engine that hawk is there at the museum.

  3. StutteringStevie Said,

    Hawk doesn’t get …
Hawk doesn’t get scrapped. He gets preserved in a railway museum in Swindon.

A nice insight into DoTD. That last scene really was something poignant (sp?).

  4. KZ1993 Said,

    glad to hear that
    glad to hear that

  5. MIDIacefro Said,

    Oh, I see.

    You …
    Oh, I see.

You se, I have an old LGB “Steinz” model, and when we first got it, there was nothing on it that would produce steam. When we got the compatible smoke funnel, we rigged the engine so, according to LGB standards for a model of that kind, the smoke funnel would take in power directly from the motor.

That’s how I guessed the way the “Stephen” model was modified.

Thanks for clarifying it for me.

  6. therailwayinspector3 Said,

    excellent video Si. …
    excellent video Si.
All those poor scrapped trains :(
    Excellent set-work I must say ;)

  7. simierski Said,

    Thank you Leo - …
Thank you Leo - hopefully the next vid will explain all more fully. This is just to tide everyone over until then.

  8. simierski Said,

    Sometimes - a few …
Sometimes - a few of the models in the series are old models I’ve restored for use (Herbert and Nigel among them).

  9. simierski Said,

About a week ago - just before I dismantled the snow set, I got 60163 out of the cabinet and had some fun with a six coach train for a few hours.

  10. KZ1993 Said,

I have to hand it …
I have to hand it to you, not only special effects and video skills but you have to manage your lines and trains too. I have to ask when is the last time you got to sit back and run a train just for fun?

  11. 45x45bw Said,

    do you restore old …
do you restore old model trains or somethin?

  12. leokimvideo Said,

    nice insight into …
    nice insight into your series.

  13. simierski Said,

    Well, its only 6 …
Well, its only 6 weeks…call me a liar for two weeks! ;)
Truth be told, if I can finish the video earlier I’ll upload it earlier. Thanks for your comments chaps.

  14. gguru1 Said,

    It’s only June, how …
It’s only June, how is August “next month”? :P Good video regardless.

  15. simierski Said,

    Sort of - I set up …
Sort of - I set up a special DCC circuit which allows me to turn it on and off. Only problem was I fumbled with the E-Z command buttons and had to make stephen shriek to a halt while turning the generator on at the same time!

It is wired across the motor terminals and to the DCC chip - when DCC power is applied, a current goes through the motor even if its not turning. That’s where the seuthe generator gets its power from.

  16. MIDIacefro Said,

    3:02-3:40

    3:02-3:40
    regarding Stephen:

Is that smoke generator wired directly to the motor?

  17. simierski Said,

21 is the only one …
21 is the only one that would fit stephen! Really small model, needed to drill through the big counterweight on the front to fit it. I’m using a 22 in Allen and the new model for Sir Ralph.

  18. johndanthethird Said,

    Hey! Wait a minute, …
Hey! Wait a minute, that boiler with the face on next to hawk is the old western engine from episode 1

  19. steamrailuk Said,

    Sure must have been …
Sure must have been sad for Gronk to see all those locos being cut up, especially seeing his close friend Hawk waiting to be scrapped : (

  20. hiesler Said,

    A making of video, …
A making of video, you never run out of ideas do you? cant wait! :D

  21. 03newhoj Said,

    I think it’s ment …
    I think it’s ment to.

  22. sparkshot Said,

    Just watched the …
Just watched the last bit another twice, is disterbing me now! really, that’s horrid, music works a treat. Doomy.

  23. sparkshot Said,

    Man that boiler …
Man that boiler with the face on! That scared me, and rightly so, a truer depiction of reality. Great vid si, all of it. I usuallu use #22, gives a puff effect, do you use 21 for stationary shots mainly?

  24. ShuntingTank043 Said,

    Cool video. I like …
Cool video. I like it all. great plot lines in the series. sometimes music drowns narration in episodes but this is wonderful, keep up the great work man

  25. Damocles178 Said,

    It’s great seeing …
It’s great seeing all the hard work that goes into a video before the final production stage :)
